Winston Churchill High School (Lethbridge)

Winston Churchill High School (Lethbridge)

Winston Churchill High School (most commonly known as Churchill; also Winston or WCHS) is the smaller of two public secondary schools in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, serving grades nine, ten, eleven, and twelve. Entry is loosely based on location in north Lethbridge.

Locally, Winston Churchill High School is often referred to by one of two aforementioned abridged titles. Individuals without a connection to the school are known to refer to it simply as Winston. This is in contrast with individuals that have dealt more closely with the school, who predominantly refer to it as Churchill.

Beginning in the 2003-2004 school year, Grade 9 students began attending the school, in accordance with a nearly province-wide grade reconfiguration that saw "middle" school become grades 6-8, and "high school" redefined as grades 9-12. The school offers several specialty programs, including the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate program.

    At the sophist schools, and the learned clan;

    When man in the bush with God may meet?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    The difference between de jure and de facto segregation is the difference open, forthright bigotry and the shamefaced kind that works through unwritten agreements between real estate dealers, school officials, and local politicians.
