William Russell Allen House

William Russell Allen House is a historic house at 359 East Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. It was designed by H. Neill Wilson.

It was built in 1886 and added to the National Historic Register in 1980.

Built as a summer cottage for Allen, a Missouri railroad and a granite quarry owner, it is "a rare example of American Queen Anne Style architecture because of its terra cotta tile exterior, the hand-painted ceiling, the fireplaces with polished onyx marble and Casting (metalworking) bronze, and stained glass windows."

Famous quotes containing the words russell and/or house:

Let us be of good cheer, however, remembering that the misfortunes hardest to bear are those which never come.
    —James Russell Lowell (1819–1891)

The House of Lords, architecturally, is a magnificent room, and the dignity, quiet, and repose of the scene made me unwillingly acknowledge that the Senate of the United States might possibly improve its manners. Perhaps in our desire for simplicity, absence of title, or badge of office we may have thrown over too much.
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)
