Wild Rye

Wild rye is a term used for several grasses. They are natively found in parts of North America (as well as elsewhere) and are valuable in the control of exotic invasive plants and as a rotation crop.

"Wild ryes" belong to either of two genera:

  • Elymus (genus) (wheatgrasses)
  • Leymus

Famous quotes containing the words wild and/or rye:

    I had wild Jack for a lover;
    Though like a road
    That men pass over
    My body makes no moan
    But sings on:
    All things remain in God.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    When as the rye reach to the chin,
    And chopcherry, chopcherry ripe within,
    Strawberries swimming in the cream,
    And school-boys playing in the stream;
    George Peele (1559–1596)
