Film Adaptation
A film adaptation of Wicked has been in talks since 2004 though producers have been waiting for a dip in the stage musical's earnings. In July 2012, it was reported that Universal Pictures, who are producing the film, was "taking steps forward" to its realization. The company sought Stephen Daldry to direct the film whilst employing Winnie Holzman, who wrote the musical's book, to pen the screenplay. Whilst a film adaptation of the musical has been talked about for some time, it has been slow in production. No casting or further members of the creative team have been announced. There is no start date or release date set for the film.
