White Booklet - Boycott Official Spelling

Boycott Official Spelling

The latest edition will, because of the changes, be unable to bear the official certification mark of the Dutch Language Union. The White Booklet will then become the spelling prescription of a group of media organizations and companies in The Netherlands who will boycott the new spelling rules. These parties have jointly announced in December 2005 that they will not switch to the new official spelling, and they had not done as of August 1, 2006. These are de Volkskrant, Trouw, NRC Handelsblad, Elsevier, HP/De Tijd, De Groene Amsterdammer, Vrij Nederland, Planet Internet, Tekstnet, and the NOS. They will follow the spelling as determined by the White Booklet.

Even if Onze Taal is a society for both countries, no large media or publisher in Flanders uses the White Booklet.

Famous quotes containing the words boycott, official and/or spelling:

Take away from the courts, if it could be taken away, the power to issue injunctions in labor disputes, and it would create a privileged class among the laborers and save the lawless among their number from a most needful remedy available to all men for the protection of their business interests against unlawful invasion.... The secondary boycott is an instrument of tyranny, and ought not to be made legitimate.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

I know one husband and wife who, whatever the official reasons given to the court for the break up of their marriage, were really divorced because the husband believed that nobody ought to read while he was talking and the wife that nobody ought to talk while she was reading.
    Vera Brittain (1893–1970)

We drove the Indians out of the land,
But a dire revenge those Redmen planned,
For they fastened a name to every nook,
And every boy with a spelling book
Will have to toil till his hair turns gray
Before he can spell them the proper way.
    Eva March Tappan (1854–1930)
