Video Production and Broadcast Program
With the help of a federal grant and the leadership of video production teacher Kevin Walsh, WBHS was able to construct a studio complete with a green screen along with professional-level lighting and audio equipment, including many editing bays for student use. The new classroom/studio opened in 2002. The expansion of the program continued to accommodate more students offering a Video Journalism class which paved the way for a number of student-created productions, some of which aired on WBTV, channel 19, local channel of the West Bloomfield School District. By 2005 the video department had students actively engaged in event-broadcast style recordings of the school's plays and theater performances (as well as sporting events and others), making the recording available to students and parents on DVD format within days. In 2005, the first live student-produced show aired on WBTV during primetime. The Spectrum Show, produced and hosted by students Eric Maniloff and Matt Moss, aired at 8pm on May 18th, 2005. Also, 2005 marked the first time in school history that the senior class video was duplicated and distributed in digital DVD format.
