The Present Day WHR
The modern Welsh Highland Railway is a tourist railway that is owned and operated by the Festiniog Railway Company. It is longer than the original line and starts from Caernarfon rather than Dinas. The extension was built on the trackbed of the former standard gauge Railway. Dinas station is also built on the standard gauge railway site, rather than the original narrow gauge site, with the line moving onto the original WHR alignment just south of the station.
It is marketed by the FR Co. as The Welsh Highland Railway and Rheilffordd Eryri (Welsh language for 'Snowdonia Railway'). The WHR's connection to the Ffestiniog Railway means that the FR Co. controls almost 40 miles of narrow gauge railway and it often promotes both lines jointly as the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways.

Famous quotes containing the words the present, present and/or day:
“As in geology, so in social institutions, we may discover the causes of all past changes in the present invariable order of society.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“I dont suppose theres a man going, as possesses the fondness for youth that I do. Theres youth to the amount of eight hundred pound a-year, at Dotheboys Hall at this present time. Id take sixteen hundred pound worth, if I could get em, and be as fond of every individual twenty pound among em as nothing should equal it!”
—Charles Dickens (18121870)
“If a man liked his eggs half-boiled, she would bear it in her mind for ever. She would know the proper day for making this marmalade and that preserve; and she would never lose her good looks for a moment when she was doing these things. With her little dusting-brush at her girdle, no eyes that knew anything, would ever take her for aught but a lady.”
—Anthony Trollope (18151882)
