WCPT (AM) - Criticism

Criticism

The most common complaints about WCPT relate to the AM station's status as a daytimer. As the station explains on its website, it is a situation that is out of their control, due to FCC mandates. WCPT doubled its signal power when it moved from 850 kHz to 820 kHz. While on 850, WCPT signed off from sunset to sunrise to protect the signal of KOA in Denver. With the move to 820 AM, they sign off at sunset to protect WBAP in Fort Worth, Texas. WCPT is also simulcast on FM: WCPY 92.5 (De Kalb), WCPT-FM 92.7 (Arlington Heights), and WCPQ 99.9 (Park Forest), enabling 24-hour broadcasting.

WCPT later made the following announcement:

"WCPT is pleased to announce that our 820 AM Signal was approved by the FCC for 24 Hour Operation, which began Thursday, April 29, 2010. FCC rules still say we have to reduce power at night, so it won't be quite as strong as our daytime signal, but we know that every little bit helps. Our nighttime signal will be strongest in the southwest suburbs.

"Our nighttime programming is available on our stream at ChicagosProgressiveTalk.com for those outside of the signal coverage area. To listen to our live stream."

Famous quotes containing the word criticism:

I consider criticism merely a preliminary excitement, a statement of things a writer has to clear up in his own head sometime or other, probably antecedent to writing; of no value unless it come to fruit in the created work later.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)

I am opposed to writing about the private lives of living authors and psychoanalyzing them while they are alive. Criticism is getting all mixed up with a combination of the Junior F.B.I.- men, discards from Freud and Jung and a sort of Columnist peep- hole and missing laundry list school.... Every young English professor sees gold in them dirty sheets now. Imagine what they can do with the soiled sheets of four legal beds by the same writer and you can see why their tongues are slavering.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)

A tailor can adapt to any medium, be it poetry, be it criticism. As a poet, he can mend, and with the scissors of criticism he can divide.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)
