- James Michael Barham (Class of 1959), whose mysterious death in his dormitory room at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the early 1960s was documented and discussed in Blood on the Old Well by Sarah Watson Emery, a book which discussed alleged communist involvement in Chapel Hill.
