Famous quotes containing the words walt, gold, classic and/or collection:
“In the far South the sun of autumn is passing
Like Walt Whitman walking along a ruddy shore.
He is singing and chanting the things that are part of him,
The worlds that were and will be, death and day.
Nothing is final, he chants. No man shall see the end.
His beard is of fire and his staff is a leaping flame.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“Whatever is gold does not glitter. A gentle radiance belongs to the noblest metal.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“For years, they have all been dying
Out, the classic buck-and-wing men”
—James Dickey (b. 1923)
“The Nature of Familiar Letters, written, as it were, to the Moment, while the Heart is agitated by Hopes and Fears, on Events undecided, must plead an Excuse for the Bulk of a Collection of this Kind. Mere Facts and Characters might be comprised in a much smaller Compass: But, would they be equally interesting?”
—Samuel Richardson (16891761)
