It has the largest space of universities in Bhubaneswar and is the most centrally located. It has one of the highest number of educational departments in India and is the state largest in this respect. The university has jurisdiction over nine districts in Orissa: Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri, catering to the needs of higher education of a population of over 11 million people.
