Huge Versus Big Real Mode
As described above, unreal mode usually involves using one or more data selectors to address data in memory more efficiently. This has been common practice and often referred to as "big" real mode. "Huge" real mode is attained by, in addition, loading the code selector (CS) from a descriptor allowing access to the whole memory and having the 32-bit attribute ("D" bit) set to one. This rarely used "mode" presents some advantages but it is more difficult to set up, since real mode interrupts do not automatically preserve the high sixteen bits of the extended instruction pointer, EIP.

Famous quotes containing the words huge, big, real and/or mode:
“I remember her on the screen, huge as a colossus doll, mincing and whispering and simply hoping her way into total vulnerability.”
—Gloria Steinem (b. 1934)
“I hate England and its hopelessness. I hate [Arnold] Bennetts resignation. Tragedy ought really to be a great big kick at misery.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“The pleasures of the imagination are as it were only drawings and models which are played with by poor people who cannot afford the real thing.”
—G.C. (Georg Christoph)
“If Thought is capable of being classed with Electricity, or Will with chemical affinity, as a mode of motion, it seems necessary to fall at once under the second law of thermodynamics as one of the energies which most easily degrades itself, and, if not carefully guarded, returns bodily to the cheaper form called Heat. Of all possible theories, this is likely to prove the most fatal to Professors of History.”
—Henry Brooks Adams (18381918)
