Athletics
The University of Sioux Falls Cougars compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. The university is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) for the majority of sports and in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) for men's soccer.
Prior to joining the NCAA, the university competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference. On April 28, 2009 the university board of trustees voted to leave the NAIA and apply to join the NCAA Division II. After successful completion of two candidacy years and a provisional year in 2011-12, the university gained full membership into the NCAA.
