United Kingdom In The Eurovision Song Contest 2005

The United Kingdom was represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 by "Touch My Fire" performed by Javine.

Javine Hylton was born on 27 December 1981 and as a yougster enjoyed listening to her mother’s collection of soul and reggae albums. At the age of 10, she was offered an arts scholarship. Modelling and appearances in pop videos followed before winning the coveted role of Nala in the West End production of Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ at the age of 19. The role was incidentally later played by the British 2009 entrant Jade Ewen.

In 2002 Hylton took part in the ITV show Popstars: The Rivals, but missed out on a place in the winning band, Girls Aloud. She later established herself as a solo UK R&B singer before taking part in Making Your Mind Up.

Famous quotes containing the words united, kingdom, song and/or contest:

Europe and the U.K. are yesterday’s world. Tomorrow is in the United States.
    R.W. “Tiny” Rowland (b. 1917)

Our nada who art in nada, nada be thy name thy kingdom nada thy will be nada in nada as it is in nada. Give us this nada our daily nada and nada us our nada as we nada our nadas and nada us not into nada but deliver us from nada; pues nada. Hail nothing full of nothing, nothing is with thee.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)

There’s something wonderfully exciting about the quiet sing song of an aeroplane overhead with all the guns in creation lighting out at it, and searchlights feeling their way across the sky like antennae, and the earth shaking snort of the bombs and the whimper of shrapnel pieces when they come down to patter on the roof.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

Theologians should not be ashamed to admit that they cannot enter a contest with such antagonists [the sceptics], and that they do not want to expose the Gospel truths to such an attack. The ship of Jesus Christ is not made for sailing on this stormy sea, but for taking shelter from this tempest in the haven of faith.
    Pierre Bayle (1647–1706)
