The school opened in September 2009, merging the city's prior high schools, Union Hill High School and Emerson High School, and marking the first high school opened in the city in 90 years. The school, which was built on the site of the former Roosevelt Stadium, cost $180 million, covers 4½ acres and includes a rooftop football field. The school's colors are navy blue and silver. Its opening ceremony was attended by Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and Governor of New Jersey Jon Corzine.

Famous quotes containing the words union, city, high and/or school:

It would be unjust, and moreover Utopian, for Shakespeare to direct the shoemakers’ union. But it would be equally disastrous for the shoemakers’ union to ignore Shakespeare.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.

Our domestic problems are for the most part economic. We have our enormous debt to pay, and we are paying it. We have the high cost of government to diminish, and we are diminishing it. We have a heavy burden of taxation to reduce, and we are reducing it. But while remarkable progress has been made in these directions, the work is yet far from accomplished.
    Calvin Coolidge (1872–1933)

For millions of men and women, the church has been the hospital for the soul, the school for the mind and the safe depository for moral ideas.
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
