Tyrannius Rufinus - Influence

Influence

We can hardly overestimate the influence which Rufinus exerted on Western theologians by thus putting the great Greek fathers into the Latin tongue. Dominic Vallarsi's uncompleted edition of Rufous (vol. i. fol. Verona, 1745) contains the De Benedictionibus, the Apologies, the Expositlo Symboli, the Historia Eremitica and the two original books of the Hist. Eccl. See also Migne, Patrol. (vol. xxi. of the Latin series). For the translations, see the various editions of Origen, Eusebius, etc.

Famous quotes containing the word influence:

I have thought a sufficient measure of civilization is the influence of good women.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

A healthy soul stands united with the Just and the True, as the magnet arranges itself with the pole, so that he stands to all beholders like a transparent object betwixt them and the sun, and whoso journeys towards the sun, journeys towards that person. He is thus the medium of the highest influence to all who are not on the same level.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

What do women want with votes, when they hold the sceptre of influence with which they can control even votes, if they wield it aright?
    Mrs. H. O. Ward (1824–1899)
