TTC Birney Cars - Sale of Fleet

Sale of Fleet

The cars' service was short-lived with the TTC and sold in three batches:

  • Three were sold in 1926 to Cornwall (Cornwall Street Railway Light and Power Company)
  • eight in 1927 to Halifax, Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia Tramways and Power Company)
  • remaining fourteen in 1941, also to Halifax (Nova Scotia Light and Power Company Limited)

The 3 Cornwall cars were scrapped in 1949, whereas the Halifax cars lasted until 1949 when streetcar service was abandoned in the city.

Famous quotes containing the words sale of, sale and/or fleet:

I hate this shallow Americanism which hopes to get rich by credit, to get knowledge by raps on midnight tables, to learn the economy of the mind by phrenology, or skill without study, or mastery without apprenticeship, or the sale of goods through pretending that they sell, or power through making believe you are powerful, or through a packed jury or caucus, bribery and “repeating” votes, or wealth by fraud.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

I keep thinking that what I need
to do is buy my leg back.
Surely it is for sale somewhere,
    poor broken tool, poor ornament.
It might be in a store somewhere beside a lady’s scarf.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly today,
Were to change by tomorrow, and fleet in my arms,
    Like fairy-gifts fading away.
    Thomas Moore (1779–1852)
