Travel Documentary

A travel documentary is a documentary film, television program or online series that describes travel in general or tourist attractions in a non-commercial way.

In the past, the genre was represented by television shows, such as Across the Seven Seas, showcasing travelogues produced by third parties, and occasional itinerant presentations of travelogues in theaters and other venues. "Shock" travelogues, such as Mondo cane (1962), also enjoyed a certain following.

Today, the British comedian Michael Palin has become famous for this kind of production with several series depicting his travels around the world. PBS has several travel shows including those hosted by Rick Steves.

Famous quotes containing the words travel and/or documentary:

To get away from one’s working environment is, in a sense, to get away from one’s self; and this is often the chief advantage of travel and change.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)

If you want to tell the untold stories, if you want to give voice to the voiceless, you’ve got to find a language. Which goes for film as well as prose, for documentary as well as autobiography. Use the wrong language, and you’re dumb and blind.
    Salman Rushdie (b. 1948)
