Transport in Swindon - Air

Air

Civil airfields existed in Swindon's immediate surroundings up until the mid 20th century, with a small airfield at South Marston (X2SO) attached to the Vickers/Supermarine factory, now the site of Honda. The nearest civilian airfield with a concrete runway is now at Kemble, with major international air traffic using Bristol Airport.

Famous quotes containing the word air:

    Soun is noght but air ybroken,
    And every speche that is spoken,
    Loud or privee, foul or fair,
    In his substaunce is but air;
    For as flaumbe is but lighted smoke,
    Right so soun is air ybroke.
    Geoffrey Chaucer (1340–1400)

    Mary, hear,
    O Mary, marry earth, sea, air and fire;
    Our sacred earth in our day is our curse.
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)

    The air was clear. He seemed in ultimate peace

    Except that he had no eyes. Rigid and bright
    Upon the forehead, furred
    With a light frost, crouched an outrageous bird.
    Anthony Hecht (b. 1923)
