Tolowa Dunes State Park is a 5,000-acre (20 km2) California State Park located on California's far North Coast. Encompassing Lake Earl and Lake Tolowa and a significant portion of the relatively large coastal plain around it including Yontocket, California, this park - a sanctuary for bird life - is easily reached by US 101 just north of Crescent City, California. The name refers to the Tolowa people, a native group who occupied the area, relatively undisturbed previous to European colonization in the 1850s.

Famous quotes containing the words state and/or park:
“I am willing to pledge myself that if the time should ever come that the voluntary agencies of the country together with the local and state governments are unable to find resources with which to prevent hunger and suffering ... I will ask the aid of every resource of the Federal Government.... I have the faith in the American people that such a day will not come.”
—Herbert Hoover (18741964)
“The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.”
—Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
