Tokyo Metro 05 Series

The Tokyo Metro 05 series (東京地下鉄05系, Tōkyō Chikatetsu 05-kei?) is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated on the Tokyo Metro Tōzai Line in Japan by Tokyo Metro.

A total of 43 10-car trainsets were built from 1988 to 2004, with a number of variants. Sets 05-125 onward have a redesigned front end, and are called "05N series". Sets 05-114 to 05-118 have wide doors. A further four sets were due to be built, but the plan was changed to use 07 series transferred from Yūrakuchō Line, so no further 05 series trains were built.

The master controller includes a deadman system in which the brakes are applied if the driver releases the master controller. The partition between the driver's cab and passenger saloon has three windows. Two of the windows are usually screened by curtains on the Tozai Line, but one window is left unobstructed so passengers can look the view ahead even on subway tracks.

Famous quotes containing the words tokyo and/or series:

Eclecticism is the degree zero of contemporary general culture: one listens to reggae, watches a western, eats McDonald’s food for lunch and local cuisine for dinner, wears Paris perfume in Tokyo and “retro” clothes in Hong Kong; knowledge is a matter for TV games. It is easy to find a public for eclectic works.
    Jean François Lyotard (b. 1924)

Life ... is not simply a series of exciting new ventures. The future is not always a whole new ball game. There tends to be unfinished business. One trails all sorts of things around with one, things that simply won’t be got rid of.
    Anita Brookner (b. 1928)
