Timothy Laurence - Marriage

Marriage

He met Princess Anne when he served as an Equerry to The Queen, when her first marriage to Captain Mark Phillips broke down. Commander Laurence and Anne were married 12 December 1992, in a Church of Scotland ceremony at Crathie Parish Church, Ballater, near Balmoral, the Church of Scotland permitting the remarriage of divorced people.

He received no peerage on marriage, but was knighted by The Queen in June 2011 as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

Princess Anne retained her country estate, Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, after her divorce. After they were married, she and Laurence leased as their London residence a flat in the Dolphin Square complex, in Westminster. They later returned to apartments in Buckingham Palace and now have an apartment at St James's Palace.

Famous quotes containing the word marriage:

Yes, marriage is hateful, detestable. A kind of ineffable, sickening disgust seizes my mind when I think of this most despotic, most unrequited fetter which prejudice has forged to confine its energies.
    Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822)

With my desire to write he seemed in full sympathy, and in urging our early marriage he argued that my first necessity was leisure in which to develop and to master my craft. It appeared to me that with such a man as teacher and guide I could not fail, and it was in a queer mixture of young love and vaulting ambition that I became a wife.
    Rheta Childe Dorr (1866–1948)

What is any respectable girl brought up to do but to catch some rich man’s fancy and get the benefit of his money by marrying him?—as if a marriage ceremony could make any difference in the right or wrong of the thing!
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
