  • August 3 – The President meets with Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, in the Oval Office.
  • August 4 – President Barack Obama celebrates his forty-eighth birthday at the White House. Obama also meets with National Commander of the American Legion Dave Rehbein and Executive Director Peter Gaytan.
  • August 5 – Obama visits Elkhart, Indiana for the second time in his presidency to hold a townhall meeting about unemployment in the work force and new jobs being created.
  • August 6 – Obama delivers brief remarks about the confirmation of soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and expresses gratitude to the Senators who confirmed her.
