    • On January 18, former Social Distortion bassist Brent Liles, who played on their first album Mommy's Little Monster and is featured in the tour documentary Another State of Mind, died after being hit by a semi truck while riding a dirt bike in Placentia, California. He was 43 years old.
    • On February 10, Alan "Nidge" Miller from Blitz was struck by a car and died the morning after a concert in Austin, Texas.
    • On February 27, The Circle Jerks post a new song, titled "I'm Gonna Live", on their MySpace. This marks the first time the band has released new material in over ten years.
    • On March 12, Matchbook Romance announce they would be going on a long-term hiatus.
    • Patti Smith is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12.
    • On July 27, The Offspring announce on their website that Atom Willard has left the band and is replaced by former Face to Face and Saves the Day drummer Pete Parada.
    • On October 11, frontman Dicky Barrett announces that The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have reformed and would perform together for the first time in four years at a 10th official Hometown Throwdown at Cambridge's famed Middle East club on December 26–27.
    • October 21, Paul Fox, guitarist and singer for The Ruts dies of lung cancer at age 56.
    • On December 13, it was announced that 22 Jacks have reformed after a six year hiatus.
