    • Sublime singer/guitarist Bradley Nowell dies from a heroin overdose at the age of 28, shortly before the release of their highly acclaimed self-titled album. Following his death, Sublime breaks up.
    • Bass player Jason Thirsk formerly of Pennywise dies of self-inflicted gunshot wounds at the age of 28 on July 29. However, the group did not break up and bass player Randy Bradbury continued for him.
    • The Descendents reform for a new album and tour.
    • The Offspring leave Epitaph Records and sign to their current home Columbia.
    • The Sex Pistols reunite and release their album Filthy Lucre Live.
    • Nirvana's second live album From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah to be released after lead singer Kurt Cobain died in 1994.
