- Guitarist Greg Hetson leaves the Circle Jerks to concentrate full-time with his current project Bad Religion. As a result, the Circle Jerks become less active.
- Longtime bassist Dee Dee Ramone leaves The Ramones. He was replaced by C. J. Ramone, who would stay in the band until their break up in 1996.
- Social Distortion sign to Epic Records and record their highly successful self-titled album, which was released a year later.
