Students have access to programs such as adult secondary school completion; certificates and diplomas, including advanced and post-baccalaureate; associate degrees; and bachelor's degrees.

TRU-OL offers Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR), which awards credit for knowledge achieved through work and life experience.

Famous quotes containing the words thompson, rivers, open and/or learning:

    Cry,—clinging Heaven by the hems;
    And lo, Christ walking on the water
    Not of Gennesareth, but Thames!
    —Francis Thompson (1859–1907)

    As for evildoers, for them awaits a painful chastisement;
    but for those who believe, and do deeds
    of righteousness, they shall be admitted
    to gardens underneath which rivers flow,
    therein dwelling forever,
    by the leave of their Lord, their greeting
    therein: “Peace!”
    Qur’An. Abraham 14:28 (ed. Arthur J. Arberry, 1955)

    ...there are important considerations in the world beyond plain sewing and teaching dull little boys the alphabet. Any woman who has brains and willing hands finds twenty remunerative occupations open to her where formerly she would have found merely the inevitable two—plain sewing, or the dull little boys. All she had to do is to make her choice and then buckle on her armor of perseverance, while the world applauds.
    Clara (Marquise)

    “Miss C_____’s father,” says Betty, “had much better have bred his daughter a housewife, and then, mayhap, she might have got her a husband, which with all her fine learning she has not yet been able to do. And no wonder, for what man would be plagued with a slattern?”
    Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)
