In the 736-page fourth volume, The Passage of Power, Caro covers Johnson's life from 1958 to 1964, the challenges Johnson faced upon his assumption of the presidency, and the magnitude of his accomplishments in the months after Kennedy’s assassination. The book was released on May 1, 2012.
It won the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award (Biography) and the 2012 Los Angeles Times Book Prize (Biography).
