The Voice Within - Critical Response

Critical Response

"The Voice Within" received generally positive reviews from music critics. Josh Kun from Spin called it a "swoony Celine-for-teens ballad." Sal Cinquemani from Slant Magazine gave the song a very positive review, naming it "an inspirational power-vocal-pushing ballad." CD Universe agreed, commenting: "Her rich, throaty style works well on slower numbers like the Mariah-like 'The Voice Within'." Amanda Murray from Sputnikmusic wrote that the song is "tacky but powerful all the same."

Eamonn McCusker from "The Digital Fix" wrote a favorable review, praised its "gospel choir", "fat power ballad drums" and "chunky chords played on a piano." The website "Traveling to the Heart" gave "The Voice Within" a mixed review, said that the song is good but "seems as though it’s a cover of a rejected Whitney Houston song" and "the choir addition towards the end is an overdose of saccharine and unnecessary." The website Epinions wrote, "Although The Voice Within is more sappy and cliche than Beautiful, it ties into Stripped's central and universal theme of self-love and empowerment."

Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or response:

The disaster ... is not the money, although the money will be missed. The disaster is the disrespect—this belief that the arts are dispensable, that they’re not critical to a culture’s existence.
    Twyla Tharp (b. 1941)

I’ll never forget my father’s response when I told him I wanted to be a lawyer. He said, “If you do this, no man will ever want you.”
    Cassandra Dunn (b. c. 1931)
