Furniture
Many of the decorative items designed by Burges for Tower House were dispersed following his death. Several pieces from the collection of Charles Handley-Read, who was instrumental in reviving interest in Burges, were acquired by the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery in Bedford. Items in the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery from Tower House include a pair of cabinet doors, the Narcissus washstand and a wardrobe, the latter designed for the nursery at Tower House, and Burges's bed, in which he died. Items from Tower House in the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) include Burges's washstand and Golden bed.

Famous quotes containing the word furniture:
“Parents who want a fresh point of view on their furniture are advised to drop down on all fours and accompany the nine or ten month old on his rounds. It is probably many years since you last studied the underside of a dining room chair. The ten month old will study this marvel with as much concentration and reverence as a tourist in the Cathedral of Chartres.”
—Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)
“A man should keep his little brain attic stocked with all the furniture that he is likely to use, and the rest he can put away in the lumber room of his library, where he can get it if he wants it.”
—Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (18591930)
