Background

In 1998 Nickelback were touring a lot in Canada. After their first independent album called Curb. Nickelback had a single called "Fly". "Fly" was Nickelback first single and it got played a lot in Vancouver Radio Stations. In early of 1998 Nickelback were trying to get money so they could record their next album. Touring did not help the band earned a lot of money. In July of 1998 Mitch Guindon quit Nickelback and left them without a drummer. With Nickelback without a drummer, Ryan Peake called his childhood friend Ryan Vikedal, who joined the band. This time the band was ready to earn money so they could record their second album. To get money the band did plenty of things by Mike Kroeger handle all the distribution, Chad handle all the radio tracking, and Ryan Peake handle all the bookings. With all of the work the band got $30,000 to record The State and the band was ready. In late 1998 the band went back to the studio to record The State, which was released in January of 1999. Around this time the band sent a song of their album called "Leader Of Men", which reached the top 20 in the Canadian RPM rock charts in 1999. Around April of 1999 the band shot a video for the single Leader Of Men. The Video was released on May of 1999. The video got heavy rotation on MuchMusic and it got a lot of rotation that MuchMusic even decided to change it to regular rotation. On 1999 to support The State, Nickelback toured in Canada, eventually getting a small Canadian fanbase. Roadrunner A&R Ron Burman told HitQuarters that one of his West Coast scouts sent him the self-released album and, suitably impressed, he traveled to Vancouver to see them perform live. Off the stage he was impressed by their industry and initiative in managing their career: Despite this, it still took Burman three months for him to convince his label bosses' to approve the signing. Thanks to this in September of 1999 Nickelback were signed to Roadrunner records. After being signed Roadrunner wanted to bring Nickelback to the States. Eventually the band toured small clubs by the end of the year. This would lead to Nickelback releasing The State in America in 2000.

Famous quotes containing the word background:

In the true sense one’s native land, with its background of tradition, early impressions, reminiscences and other things dear to one, is not enough to make sensitive human beings feel at home.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

Silence is the universal refuge, the sequel to all dull discourses and all foolish acts, a balm to our every chagrin, as welcome after satiety as after disappointment; that background which the painter may not daub, be he master or bungler, and which, however awkward a figure we may have made in the foreground, remains ever our inviolable asylum, where no indignity can assail, no personality can disturb us.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

They were more than hostile. In the first place, I was a south Georgian and I was looked upon as a fiscal conservative, and the Atlanta newspapers quite erroneously, because they didn’t know anything about me or my background here in Plains, decided that I was also a racial conservative.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
