The Mall (Kuala Lumpur) - History

History

The Mall was built at a cost of RM189 million and its launch was marked by a light show. The shopping centre was launched by Mahathir bin Mohamad, who personally buried a time capsule that will be unearthed after a century, in 2087. The capsule contains a message written by Mahathir and is addressed to the citizens of the future.

The Legend Hotel was built as extension to The Mall on 1993 and completed in 1996. In 1996, Yaohan departmental store was changed into Aktif Lifestyle and in 2004 the store was bought over by Parkson Grand. At the ground floor there is a food court named Medan Hang Tuah.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

History ... is, indeed, little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind.
But what experience and history teach is this—that peoples and governments have never learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

The history of American politics is littered with bodies of people who took so pure a position that they had no clout at all.
    Ben C. Bradlee (b. 1921)
