The Magnificent (DJ Jazzy Jeff Album)

The Magnificent is an album by DJ Jazzy Jeff (formerly of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince), released in 2002. Much like Pete Rock's Soul Survivor series, The Magnificent features Jill Scott, Boyz II Men's Shawn Stockman, J-Live, The Last Emperor. Although Jeff is the chief producer of the album, he nonetheless recruits an assortment of talent, which includes Questlove (of The Roots), Masters At Work, and Kev Brown (who contributes 7 of the 18 tracks).

The Magnificent was preceded by The Magnificent EP which included 3 tracks that failed to make it to the LP; the Slum Village assisted "Are You Ready?" (produced by J Dilla), and "Da Rebirth", and "Branded" (both produced by Kev Brown).

Whatever the unborn may know, they cannot know the beauty, the marvel of being alive in the flesh. The dead may look after the afterwards. But the magnificent here and now of life in the flesh is ours, and ours alone, and ours only for a time.
