The Legend Of Suram Fortress

The Legend of the Suram Fortress (Georgian: ამბავი სურამის ციხისა, Russian: Легенда о Сурамской крепости, Armenian: Սուրամի ամրոցի լեգենդը) is a 1984 film directed by Georgian SSR-born Soviet-Armenian director Sergei Parajanov, his first film after 15 years of censorship in the Soviet Union, a film stylistically linked with his earlier The Color of Pomegranates (1968): The film consists in a series of tableaux; once again minimal dialogue is used; the film abounds in surreal, almost oneiric power.

Famous quotes containing the words legend and/or fortress:

Newspaperman: That was a magnificent work. There were these mass columns of Apaches in their war paint and feather bonnets. And here was Thursday leading his men in that heroic charge.
Capt. York: Correct in every detail.
Newspaperman: He’s become almost a legend already. He’s the hero of every schoolboy in America.
    Frank S. Nugent (1908–1965)

Man is exceedingly well defended against himself, against being scouted out and besieged by himself, and he is usually able to make out no more of himself than his outer fortifications. The actual fortress is inaccessible to him, even invisible, unless his friends and enemies turn traitor to him and lead him there by secret paths.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
