The Fury of The Aquabats! - Release and Reception

Release and Reception

Released at the height of the American ska revival's mainstream popularity, The Fury proved to be a minor commercial breakthrough for The Aquabats, peaking at number 172 on the Billboard 200, the band's highest placement on the chart to date, as well as reaching number 12 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers, which would be surpassed in 2011 by Hi-Five Soup! debuting at number 5. "Super Rad!", the album's leading single, received heavy rotation on modern rock stations such as Los Angeles' influential KROQ-FM, while a music video - directed by Bobcat Goldthwait - regularly made the rounds on MTV. Despite this, neither "Super Rad!" nor The Fury's follow-up single "My Skateboard!" had any significant chart success.

Critical reception to the album was mostly positive. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic rated The Fury of The Aquabats! with four stars out of five, saying that it "fulfills the promise of their debut, offering an infectious collection of ska-punk. Although the group's songwriting is a little uneven, and they have the tendency to wallow in sophomoric, 'wacky' humor, they have enough hooks and energy to satisfy ska junkies."

Famous quotes containing the words release and/or reception:

If I were to be taken hostage, I would not plead for release nor would I want my government to be blackmailed. I think certain government officials, industrialists and celebrated persons should make it clear they are prepared to be sacrificed if taken hostage. If that were done, what gain would there be for terrorists in taking hostages?
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)

To the United States the Third World often takes the form of a black woman who has been made pregnant in a moment of passion and who shows up one day in the reception room on the forty-ninth floor threatening to make a scene. The lawyers pay the woman off; sometimes uniformed guards accompany her to the elevators.
