One of the Capital's sister papers is The Gazette, originally founded as The Maryland Gazette, and is one of the oldest newspapers in the United States. The Maryland Gazette was founded in Annapolis in the early 18th century by William Parks.

The first paper to feature the word "Capital" rolled off the presses in 1884 as The Evening Capital.
