Text Mode Demoscene
The first evident IBM PC demo group to create text mode demos is said to be the Sorcerers. The ever-popular Finnish group Future Crew also began by creating some innovative creations which took advantage of text mode, with text intros such as "Yo!" and "Starport".
tAAt, a non-profit organization in Finland, has been organizing a semi-annual competitive event for authors of textmode demos called the Text Mode Demo Contest (TMDC) from 1996 to 2007 inclusively. After they announced they wouldn't continue the annual competition after TMDC 10, members of the Northern Dragons demogroup decided to take the organization of TMDC in charge.

Famous quotes containing the words text and/or mode:
“If ever I should condescend to prose,
Ill write poetical commandments, which
Shall supersede beyond all doubt all those
That went before; in these I shall enrich
My text with many things that no one knows,
And carry precept to the highest pitch:
Ill call the work Longinus oer a Bottle,
Or, Every Poet his own Aristotle.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
“Yours of the 24th, asking the best mode of obtaining a thorough knowledge of the law is received. The mode is very simple, though laborious, and tedious. It is only to get the books, and read, and study them carefully.... Work, work, work, is the main thing.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
