Famous quotes containing the words teaching, opportunity and/or program:

Dogmatic toleration is nonsense: I would no more tolerate the teaching of Calvinism to children if I had power to persecute it than the British Raj tolerated suttee in India. Every civilized authority must draw a line between the tolerable and the intolerable.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

There never is but one opportunity of a kind.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Instead of offering the Indians a chance to surrender, and to be taken peaceably, General Connor issued a very cruel order to his men—’Take no prisoners, fight to the death; nits breed lice.’
State of Utah, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
