Tamil Transliteration

Tamil is written in a non-Latin script. Tamil text used in this article is transliterated into the Latin script according to the ISO 15919 standard.

The Tamil script (தமிழ் அரிச்சுவடி tamiḻ ariccuvaṭi) is an abugida script that is used by the Tamil people in India, Sri Lanka and elsewhere, to write the Tamil language, as well as to write the liturgical language Sanskrit, using consonants and diacritics not represented in the basic script.Certain minority languages such as Saurashtra, Badaga, Irula, and Paniya are also written in the Tamil script.
