Tallaght - Politics and Government

Politics and Government

Tallaght is represented in the Dublin South–West constituency in Dáil Éireann with four TDs. It is divided into two electoral areas on South Dublin County Council - Tallaght Central and Tallaght South. Altogether 11 councillors are elected. It is regarded as being very left leaning with the Labour Party and Sinn Féin being the larger parties in the area. On 2 September 1987, Alan Dukes, the then leader of the opposition Fine Gael political party, delivered a famous speech to the Tallaght Chamber of Commerce in which the policy which became known as the Tallaght Strategy was outlined.

Famous quotes containing the words politics and/or government:

It is not so much that women have a different point of view in politics as that they give a different emphasis. And this is vastly important, for politics is so largely a matter of emphasis.
    Crystal Eastman (1881–1928)

I am concerned about the whole man. I am concerned about what the people, using their government as an instrument and a tool, can do toward building the whole man, which will mean a better society and a better world.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
