Takaya Kamikawa

Takaya Kamikawa (上川 隆也, Kamikawa Takaya?, born May 7, 1965) is a Japanese stage, film, and television actor.

Takaya Kamikawa was born in Hachioji, Tokyo in 1965. He graduated from Hachioji-Kita high school in Tokyo. While studying economics in Chuo University, he joined a minor theatrical group which was touring around Japan to show performance at local schools. Kamikawa left Chuo University without a diploma, and then joined the theatrical group Caramel Box to play as a stage actor.

In 1995, Kamikawa starred in a TV Drama by NHK "Daichi no Ko", and played the leading role Lu Yixin. The original author Toyoko Yamasaki initially requested Masahiro Motoki to play the role. However, since the most of the drama was fimled in China and required a lot of travel, Motoki's tight schedule did not meet the filming schedule. Then one of the staffs found Kamikawa, who was in obscurity then, in an information magazine. Toyoko Yamasaki later made a comment that Kamikawa was the right choice.

Kamikawa is nicknamed "cyborg" by his colleague due to his extraordinary memory about script. Although he did not understand any Chinese when he was offered the role, he memorized all the Chinese script all by sounds, and played the role who's majority of dialogue was in Chinese.

In 2006, he played Yamauchi Kazutoyo, the leading role of "Koumyou ga Tsuji" in the NHK Taiga drama.

In 2009, left the theatrical group Caramel Box.

On December 4, 2009, he married former stage actress who was 25 years old then.

He played the Anti-Spiral in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
