Swedish Open Championships was first held in 1954.
Wang Liqin has won the tournament three times, in 1999, 2001 and 2003. Kjell Johansson, Dragutin Šurbek, Stellan Bengtsson, Hans Alsér, Andrzej Grubba and Vladimir Samsonov has all won it twice.
