Thanks to ABBA's victory the preceding year, Sweden hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1975. Their entry was chosen in Melodifestivalen 1975, and the winner was last year's runner up, Lasse Berghagen with the song Jennie, Jennie, which he had written and composed himself.
At the ESC final in Stockholm, Berghagen performed 18th, and sung the song in English. This year, the current voting system was for the first time in use. He did not receive any 12's, but finished 8th (out of 19) with 72 points.

Famous quotes containing the words song and/or contest:
“I shall not sing a May song.
A May song should be gay.
Ill wait until November
And sing a song of gray.”
—Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)
“The contest between the Future and the Past is one between Divinity entering, and Divinity departing. You are welcome to try your experiments, and, if you can, to displace the actual order by that ideal republic you announce, of nothing but God will expel God.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
