Sturgeon - Conservation Status

Conservation Status

Because of their long reproductive cycles, long migrations, and sensitivity to environmental conditions, many species are under severe threat from overfishing, poaching, water pollution and damming of rivers. According to the IUCN, over 85% of sturgeon species are classified as at risk of extinction, making them more critically endangered than any other group of species.

Famous quotes containing the words conservation and/or status:

A country grows in history not only because of the heroism of its troops on the field of battle, it grows also when it turns to justice and to right for the conservation of its interests.
    Aristide Briand (1862–1932)

What is clear is that Christianity directed increased attention to childhood. For the first time in history it seemed important to decide what the moral status of children was. C. John Sommerville (20th century)
