Steven F. Gaughan - Death

Death

On Tuesday, June 21, 2005, Gaughan and his partner pulled over a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Maryland Route 197 and South Laurel Drive in Laurel, Maryland. The three men in the car fled when the car was stopped. While chasing one of the suspects, Robert M. Billett, shots were exchanged, and during this exchange both Billett and Gaughan were hit. Gaughan took a fatal hit and died at Prince George's Hospital Center several hours later.

Billett was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

    I knew the poor,
    I knew the hideous death they die,
    when famine lays its bleak hand on the door;
    I knew the rich,
    sated with merriment,
    who yet are sad.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

    The One remains, the many change and pass;
    Heaven’s light forever shines, Earth’s shadows fly;
    Life, like a dome of many-coloured glass,
    Stains the white radiance of Eternity,
    Until Death tramples it to fragments.
    Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822)

    For death is not the worst, but when one wants to die and is not able even to have that.
    Sophocles (497–406/5 B.C.)
