St. Laurence O'Toole Pipe Band - The St. Laurence O'Toole Development Band

The St. Laurence O'Toole Development Band

The St.Laurence O'Toole Development Pipe Band was established in 2009 with the primary goal of teaching and preparing players for the step up to our Grade 1 band. The band had its first official outing in Maynooth on St.Patrick's Day 2010, with its first competitive outing the following May at the Co.Fermanagh Championship in Enniskillen. They also hope to start teaching kids locally with a view to playing a more active role promoting Pipes and Drums within the Tallaght community.

In the band's first competing season they done extremely well and beat their expectations gaining 1st place in the Co.Fermanagh and Mid-Ulster (plus drumming) championships, All-Ireland and British Championship wins, third at the European and a second at the World's were among the prizes going straight in at 3B.

Doing so well in their first season the band have been upgraded to 3A for the competing season of 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words the st, laurence, development and/or band:

There’s always the hyena of morality at the garden gate, and the real wolf at the end of the street.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

And catch the gleaming of a random light,
That tells me that the ship I seek is passing, passing.
    —Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872–1906)

The work of adult life is not easy. As in childhood, each step presents not only new tasks of development but requires a letting go of the techniques that worked before. With each passage some magic must be given up, some cherished illusion of safety and comfortably familiar sense of self must be cast off, to allow for the greater expansion of our distinctiveness.
    Gail Sheehy (20th century)

What passes for identity in America is a series of myths about one’s heroic ancestors. It’s astounding to me, for example, that so many people really seem to believe that the country was founded by a band of heroes who wanted to be free. That happens not to be true. What happened was that some people left Europe because they couldn’t stay there any longer and had to go someplace else to make it. They were hungry, they were poor, they were convicts.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)
