St George Christian School - Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is offered to all students in Year 9-11 and students are encouraged to complete the three year training involved. Camping and hiking expeditions which are a compulsory element of the Scheme are undertaken over weekends. As part of the schools pastoral approach, these camps and hikes are supervised by teachers who enjoy spending time outside the classroom with their students.

Famous quotes containing the words outdoor and/or education:

Close to the academy in this town they have erected a sort of gallows for the pupils to practice on. I thought that they might as well hang at once all who need to go through such exercises in so new a country, where there is nothing to hinder their living an outdoor life. Better omit Blair, and take the air.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Casting an eye on the education of children, from whence I can make a judgment of my own, I observe they are instructed in religious matters before they can reason about them, and consequently that all such instruction is nothing else but filling the tender mind of a child with prejudices.
    George Berkeley (1685–1753)
