St. Andrew's Episcopal School (Texas) - Academics

Academics

As part of the academic requirements for graduating Upper School, students must complete a "Junior Experience," described on the school website as at least two weeks "in an environment that is dramatically different from the student’s daily surroundings," and a Senior Project, undertaken in May of the student's senior year. To satisfy the Junior Experience requirement, the school offers trips every summer to destinations including Italy, Spain, West Virginia, China, The Galapagos, New Mexico and France, though students may also submit independent proposals. The Upper School also offers 11 AP courses.

Since 2007, 24 percent of all St. Andrew's graduates were National Merit Commended Students and 5 percent were National Merit Semifinalists. The average SAT scores of the Class of 2010 were 628 (Critical Reading), 625 (Mathematics), and 628 (Writing).

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
