Sovereign State of Forvik - Response From United Kingdom Government

Response From United Kingdom Government

On 20 June 2008 a United Kingdom Ministry of Justice spokesperson in London when asked about Mr Hill's forthcoming Declaration of Dependence, replied that, "Under the UK constitution, Forvik is part of the Shetland Islands, which is subject to UK legislation. The people of Shetland pay taxes to the United Kingdom exchequer and elect MPs to the UK parliament. Forvik is an integral part of the UK."

The Ministry of Justice administers communications between the UK government and the three existing Crown Dependencies of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. Guidance to civil servants notes that the existing Crown Dependencies have never been part of the UK, and there is therefore no historical precedent for Hill's "declaration".

Famous quotes containing the words response, united, kingdom and/or government:

Women had to deal with the men’s response when the women wanted more time “out” of the home; men now must deal with the women’s response as men want more time “in.”
    Kyle D. Pruett (20th century)

Vanessa wanted to be a ballerina. Dad had such hopes for her.... Corin was the academically brilliant one, and a fencer of Olympic standard. Everything was expected of them, and they fulfilled all expectations. But I was the one of whom nothing was expected. I remember a game the three of us played. Vanessa was the President of the United States, Corin was the British Prime Minister—and I was the royal dog.
    Lynn Redgrave (b. 1943)

The kingdom of man over nature, which cometh not with observation,—a dominion such as now is beyond his dream of God,—he shall enter without more wonder than the blind man feels who is gradually restored to perfect sight.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of the government. The history of government is a history of resistance. The history of liberty is the history of the limitation of government, not the increase of it.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)
