South San Francisco (Caltrain Station)

South San Francisco (Caltrain Station)

South San Francisco station is a Caltrain station in South San Francisco, California. It serves Local and Limited-Stop trains. The station is on the east side of Highway 101 beneath E. Grand Ave; downtown South San Francisco is across the freeway.

The station suffers from a poor location and poor amenities; the southbound platform is not ADA-compliant, and riders for northbound trains cross the (usually) southbound track to a narrow platform between the tracks, thus requiring a "hold out" rule at the station—if a train is stopped for passengers a train on the other track must wait. The station must be accessed via Dubuque Ave., and a tall pedestrian staircase is provided to access Grand Ave., above the station. The poor location precludes buses from connecting to the station. Although numerous Samtrans routes run near the station on Airport Blvd., the hills and tight turns make it difficult for buses to reach the station.

Famous quotes containing the words south, san and/or francisco:

The cloud was so dark that it needed all the bright lights that could be turned upon it. But for four years there was a contagion of nobility in the land, and the best blood North and South poured itself out a libation to propitiate the deities of Truth and Justice. The great sin of slavery was washed out, but at what a cost!
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)

    the San Marco Library,
    Whence turbulent Italy should draw
Delight in Art whose end is peace,
In logic and in natural law
By sucking at the dugs of Greece.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

Today, San Francisco has experienced a double tragedy of incredible proportions. As acting mayor, I order an immediate state of mourning in our city. The city and county of San Francisco must and will pull itself together at this time. We will carry on as best as we possibly can.... I think we all have to share the same sense of shame and the same sense of outrage.
    Dianne Feinstein (b. 1933)
